I'm loving the fact that my "to be read soon" basket had a second book from the same time-frame as the Halifax Connection (which I reviewed last week) from another viewpoint of the war, in a totally different setting. This story takes place in Hagerstown, Maryland, with a family consisting of Amelia, her mom, her dad, and 2 brothers, Wes and Sky, the whole family was caught in the middle of the Civil War, which was moving closer, and closer to Amelia's family/5(10).
Amelias War packs a lot of information into less than pages, but Rinaldi is great when it comes to pacing the plot, generating tension, and doling out information without overwhelming readers which is helpful because the book is geared toward to year-olds, but even adults like me who dont know a lot about the war will be entertained /5.
Two, towards the end of the book Amelia made some huge changes in self without tne necessary huge factor brought in to jolt her to that change in her ideals about the war.
I think the plot would have been more accurate to Amelia's character if she had maintained her opinion on the war, her need for neutrality/5(10). A riveting middle-grade Civil War drama by acclaimed author, Ann Rinaldi.
